Summary/Abstract: Vygriai Diocese has existed a short period of time. It was established in 1799 and then closed in 1818 when it was attached to Seinai Diocese (official name Augustavas and Seinai Diocese). The establishment of Vygriai Diocese coincided with the loss of Lithuania statehood, the division of the territory of the state and the beginning of long lasting occupation period. Vygriai Diocese partially covered the territory of Lithuanian Uznemune. Therefore, the analysis of the establishment of the Diocese and the activities of its bishops on the basis of new historical sources is very important for the further research and evaluations of Lithuanian history and culture.
