Summary/Abstract: Algirdas Dovydenas, an artist, was born in 1944 in Pasvalys. Currently the artist lives and works in Vilnius. He and his family spent the years from 1948 to 1956 in exile in Krasnojarsk region. In the period of 1962–1971 Algirdas studied stained-glass specialty in Lithuania Art Institute (now – Vilnius Art Academy). After graduation he started participating in exhibitions in Lithuania and various foreign countries (up until now he has participated in over 45 exhibitions and symposia). The artist has organised some personal exhibitions among them more important ones were held in his home town Pasvalys, also in Lithuania Art Museum exhibition hall in Juodkrante, and in the Art Gallery “Dalia” in Vilnius. The artist is continuously creating new stained-glass works, glass plastics for public and private interiors. He has completed around 200 various size stained-glass pieces. Since 1976 he has been a member of Lithuania Artist Association. Such museums as Glass Museum in Riihimaki (Finland) and Ebeltoft (Denmark) have purchased artist’s works. In 1990 Algirdas started working in Vilnius Art Academy as a lecturer of stained-glass class. He has been Head of the Department of Monumental Art, Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied arts, also a member of Vilnius Art Academy Senate. Since 1999 on the initiative of Algirdas Dovydenas international stained-glass symposia have been held in Vilnius Art Academy. In 1994 the artist was awarded the degree of Assoc. Professor and in 2005 he gained the degree of Professor. In1994 Algirdas Dovydenas was given Lithuanian National prize for culture and art.
