Summary/Abstract: Regardless of the fact that health tourism development has been highlighted as one of the priority goals for Croatian tourism in the years to come, one needs to be aware that almost nothing has been done so far to modernize the country’s outdated health tourism offer. This is especially true in the case of a much-needed increase in market readiness of most, publicly owned health/spa facilities. In order to change this situation for the better, and taking into account the global trends of interest for the development health tourism destinations, this paper outlines key development principles, as well as key success factors on which one should base successful market (re)positioning of the Croatian health tourism product in the future.
