Summary/Abstract: Several hundred thousand people in Yugoslavia take part in winter sports. Thanks to favorable climatic and topographic conditions and abundance of snow, especially in the high mountains, skiing has become a popular sport in Yugoslavia, although as far as competitions are concerned this country is still below the European level. The construction of several skating rinks in recent years has contributed to the quality of ice hockey and speeded efforts to improve the quality of figure skating.
