Summary/Abstract: This article aims to capture the current transformation in contemporary literary fiction across the world, with a particular concern for emerging formal and literary theoretical tendencies and their possible reception. The main meta-tendency seems to be a characteristic dissonance: if we accept that fictionality is a conceptional centre of literary fiction, then it can be classified into centripetal fiction and centrifugal fiction, i.e. fiction that exposes it own fictionality and fiction that camouflages it. A series of clearly recognizable strategies emerges in both cases. Żychliński proposes a preliminary analysis of these strategies.
