Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is carry out linguistic and stylistic analysis of Jacek Dehnel’s novel Matka Makryna (Mother Makryna). The book’s style results not only from the author’s writing talent, but also solid, philological work. The book’s narration is a protagonist’s monologue, combining elements of the 19th‑century language, Polish north‑eastern borderland dialect and the language used in monastic (or broadly speaking religious) communication. Stylization includes any part of the text – both main narrative monologue and seldom dialogues, as well as free indirect speech. The author used a wide range of stylistic means although with varying intensity within different stylizations. The most diversified is archaisation, visible at all levels of language system; dialect stylization is above all using regional lexis and phonetic elements, to a lesser extent using word‑formation and inflectional elements, whereas environment stylization (the most modest) is first of all based on the lexis.
