Summary/Abstract: Transport has played a significant role in Yugoslavia’s dynamic postwar development. The pace of growth and changes in the structure of transport have to a large extent been conditioned by the pace of development of the economy and society as a whole. In the period 1966—1971, principal efforts of transport enterprises were concentrated on the reconstruction, modernization and better utilization of existing facilities. In that period a total of 20 milliard dinars (in 1970 prices) was spent for that purpose. About 43 per cent of this sum was spent on the construction, reconstruction and modernization of roads and the expansion of the capacity of public road transport, and 33.2 per cent on the development and modernization of railways. The share of outlays on transport in total investment in the economy amounted in that period to about 18.5 per cent.
