Summary/Abstract: The study briefly discusses the relationship between language and thought and emphasizes the importance of the continuous development of language skills, which is related to the development of thinking and influences the successful social interaction. Based on the specific properties of language as a subject of study, we justify why it is important to apply research methods in linguistics to Bulgarian language learning. Further, a variety of language resources developed at the theInstitute for Bulgarian Language are presented, which can support the successful application of research methods in Bulgarian language learning.
