Summary/Abstract: The paper studies the issue of the relationship between the predicateargument structure that characterizes a given verb (or class of verbs) and the structure at the level of formal syntax. It presents instances in which determining whether a propositional argument position is realised in a particular sentence structure or the sentence contains an added (extensional) subordinate clause poses problems. These phenomena are related to semantic features of the verb. The analysis demonstrates that in cases of lack of realisation of the propositional argument position, this function can be fulfilled by an adverbial clause.
