Summary/Abstract: Niziołek discusses the history of the Polish gay community in the light of Michael Warner’s concept of the counterpublic. Taking the catastrophes that befell the culture and community of homosexual men in Poland in the 1980s as a case study, Niziołek points to the difficulties of studying these experiences. At the same time he proposes new research tools to analyse a realm of social experiences that is poorly assimilated in Polish culture.
