Summary/Abstract: The establishment and development of workers’ universities is closely connected with the introduction and development of workers’ and social self-management, i. e. with the requirements of a society based on self-management. Their broad and diversified work in adult education has become an integral part of the general system of education in Yugoslavia. In the school year 1967/68, there were 236 workers’ universities in the country, which in that year organized 9,679 seminars and courses (attendance 311,000) and 20,465 public lectures (attendance 1,932,000). In addition, they staged various cultural and artistic events which were attended by over 2 million people.
