Summary/Abstract: Every year the Federal Statistical Office carries out a survey of private farms, collecting, among other things, information on the volume and structure of income and expenditure of rural households. Since the private sector of agriculture contributes about 20 per cent of the national income, and since about 65 per cent of the total population live in the countryside, these data are of special significance for the preparation of national accounts, which give statistical information on production, distribution, exchange, and the final use of the social product by purpose, and are of particular importance for analyzing the personal consumption of the population as a whole.
