Summary/Abstract: Cycling in Yugoslavia is mainly an amateur sport. The aim of cyclist organizationsis to popularize cycling as a healthy form of recreation, and to imporvethe quality of cycling as a sport.Traditionally, cycling was most developed in Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia, primarily in the capitals — Zagreb, Ljubljana and Belgrade — but also in Pula,Maribor, Novi Sad, Subotica, Rijeka, Skopje, Kraljevo and Karlovac.Because of the growing number of cars, bycicles are less and less used inbig towns, so that cycling as a sport is increasingly centered in smaller townsand villages, and it is from here that the best cyclists now come rather than fromthe big urban centres as they once did.
