Summary/Abstract: Guided by the policy of active and peaceful coexistence, based on the principles of respect for national sovereignty and equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, adherence to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and a consistent implementation of international obligations, in 1962 Yugoslavia continued her efforts to improve still further her relations with neighboring countries, and to develop active co-operation with all countries, regardless of their social systems. She strove for the preservation and consolidation of peace, the creation of confidence and better understanding in international relations and for the peaceful settlement of disputes. In her foreign political activity, Yugoslavia lent maximum support to the struggle of the peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America for self determination; actively opposed all forms and remnants of colonial oppression and race discrimination; and participated in all kinds of action aimed at securing international support and assistance for developing countries and assisting the struggle against political and economic inequality. She also made an active contribution, within the limits of her possibilities, to solving the problem of disarmament and to the banning of nuclear tests. The great efforts exerted by the Government of the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia during the crisis in the Caribbean area is evidenced by the exchange of messages between President Josip Broz Tito, U Thant, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and J. Goulart, President of Brazil, as well as by constant exchanges of views with statesmen of other friendly countries.
