Summary/Abstract: When we talk about archival science, it is necessary to remind of the fact that according the definition the science is the activity that, in its field of research, meets the criteria, it means that it knows the subject of research, the causes of research and the method of research. All of this is found in archival science and is reflected in archival theory and practice. Take, for example, some researchers who have set up “roots” of archival science. The system of archival science is based on the theory of Dutch archivists, which basically means “that collected archival material is an organic whole that can not be arbitrarily formulated.” Archivalism is not only knowledge of archival material, nor the knowledge of archival material. Perhaps today in the age of hyperdocumentation and electronic archives, archivists do not need complementary knowledge in the field of auxiliary historical sciences (paleography, diplomacy, etc.) that they have gained in studying history or other disciplines, but they certainly need those supplementary knowledge of archival science, which are closely linked to the creation of electronic documents and the emergence of electronic archiving. Today, about archival science can be said that as a target science is a form of scientific research activity that deals with the problems of creation, processing, protection and use of archival material. It teaches us about the properties of archival material, about the proper appraisal, proper arrangement and preparation for later use and about proper protection. Studies at the Department for Archival Science and Record Management at Alma Mater Europaea - European Center Maribor / Slovenia is intended for all those who want to gain initial and additional knowledge in the field of business and management of archival and current regords. “Archival material is a cultural monument and as a written cultural heritage is protected by law, therefore the existence of archival material must not be questioned”.
