Summary/Abstract: Anthony Good is a professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. His work in anthropology deals with topics such as religion, kinship, social development, law, refugees and migration. For years he has conducted extensive research on family and kinship among the Tamil Nadu in India and Sri Lanka, focusing on life-cycle ceremonies and ceremonial economies and synthesizing ethnographic and historical material. He has been working on several projects relating to issues of asylum and immigration. In this field he is involved as an expert witness in asylum appeals. He has published several scientific articles and books: The Female Bridegroom: A Comparative Study of Life-Crisis Rituals in South India and Sri Lanka (1991), Worship and the Ceremonial Economy of a Royal South Indian Temple (2004), Anthropology and Expertise in the Asylum Courts (2007). The interview dates back to April 2008 on the occasion of Professor Good’s visit to the Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia.
