Summary/Abstract: Collections of Registers, whether they are Church or Civil Registers, are the historical source of the highest value, and they should be categorized as such in The Historical Archives of Subotica. As such, more attention would be put to their preservation and safe keeping, as well as their description and usage for scientific, private or legal purposes. The Registers collections are special because of their origin of creation. They have their own provenance and their creators are Roman Catholic and Orthodox Church offices and Public offices. These books represent a link between the past and the future. Thanks to the digitization of the majority of the Registers in The historical Archives of Subotica, research of the books can be done online. Digitization also provides a long term protection of these highly significant books which hold the identity of individuals and society in general.
