Summary/Abstract: This publication analyzes the cultural meanings of ‘health’, and ‘healing.’ It focuses on the point of view towards ‘health’, ‘illness’ (as an opposition to ‘health‘), and (self) healing by individuals who practice various alternative treatment systems. According to the latest author‘s empirical study (2015–2016) one‘s approach to ‘health’, ‘illness’, and ‘healing’ is closely associated with a person’s promoted lifestyle, and worldview. Based on theoretical, and empirical research, the publication examines, how cultural attitudes encourage individuals to choose alternative ways of healing, such as the experiences of non-ordinary (changed) states of consciuoseness (using psychoactive substances or without), which, by research participants, are interpreted as a kind of (self) healing. The paper tries to find out how these choices are associated with individual lifestyles and the understanding of ‘health’, and self-healing.
