Summary/Abstract: The monetary policy since the crisis times had been identified, first of all, with control over inflation and carried out mainly by regulation of the short-term interest rate. In most countries of the world, since the beginning of the 1990s, the overarching objective of central banks had been the inflation target being fixed on the basis of CPI. When the most severe for more than seventy years financial crisis arrived, central banks reached for new instruments of the monetary policy as well as there was paid attention to the problem of sustainable development. An aim of the author’s considerations is to present the aspects of sustainable development in the views of the Monetary Policy Council of the Central Bank of Sweden (Riksbank). The perspective of sustainable development can be discussed in the following aspects: long-term sustainable unemployment rate, introduction of the negative deposit rate, or paying attention to long-term consequences of the decisions being made.
