The editors argue that the analysis of art in culture realizes the main goals of the ethnology and anthropology of art. The research is focused on art in cultural systems of Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania and the Czech Republic. This approach points out the issues of art in the societies of Central and Eastern Europe. The authors interpret the histories of ‘traditional’ art, the contemporary issues of art in societies, and approaches in the theory of the anthropology of art. The first part of the book analyzes art, ethnicity and cultural change. The second part deals with the points of view to art, democracy and forms of expression. The authors meaningfully point out the differences and varieties of ethnology and anthropology of art in Central and Eastern Europe.
