Experience-scanning. The flavour, fragrance and touch in an immersion archive

Summary/Abstract: Archives aspiring to hold the entirety of experience would become immersion archives, wherein the subject - a documentalist, researcher or a visitor could plunge. The immersion archive would offer not a guess, trace or image of the past but the simulation thereof. The implementation of new memory technology in the archive science, such as digitalisation of fragrance and flavour, will allow to re-formulate the notion of archive and to do away with both the sensory and affective distance embedded in the materiality of an audio-visual memento. In reference to the civilisational forecasts of A.D. Cheok, the new archive will communicate not so much as information, but experience, thus becoming finally a simulation of presence.
