Summary/Abstract: Among the owners of family business on the Polish market, there are large disparities inaccess, as well as at the level of technical knowledge related to the succession process incomparison to European companies (following prof. T. Łuczka12). Therefore, in this study are presented the determinants occurring in the process of succession along with the threats andopportunities that are associated with it.Proper functioning and further development of the company at the end of the succession andthe successor company management are largely related to the issue of whether the process ofsuccession takes into account the determinants presented in the article and will prepare a successorto act effectively in these areas. Proper preparation of a successor during the successionprocess increases the chances for continued authority of the company and can provide opportunitiesfor its dynamic development for a further period of activity.
