Summary/Abstract: Rising debt and outstanding liabilities of Poles as well as 88 consumer bankruptcy declarations announced in 2009-2013 induced the lawmakers to review the content of the Law on Bankruptcy and Rehabilitation. The article is of the theoretical and empirical character. In her article, the author presents the main issues arising from the Law and recommended directions of changes. Theoretical approach is supplemented with the findings of the study which was carried out in August 2013 on a 1000-person sample of adult Poles.
