Summary/Abstract: Every organization needs people who are willing to be loyal to the organization and who are willing to go beyond the contract to help their colleagues and their supervisors. It appears that this kind of volunteer mentality and loyalty cannot be bought and cannot be mandated. As Simon Sinek (2013) states, it has to be inspirational; people have to want to be involved in helping their peers and their organization. These kinds of behaviors are what move an organization from being good to being great (Somech&Oplatka, 2015). Organ (1988) called these kinds of positive voluntary behaviors Organizational Citizenship Behaviors OCB). In schools we call these behaviors Teacher Citizenship Behaviors (TCB). We can set the school environment to encourage these behaviors or we can set the school environment to discourage TCBs (Fitzgerald &Laurian, 2013). Since we know that schools that have positive and supportive climates are more effective than schools that have negatives climates, it is important for us to contemplate how to help our schools become more open and supportive. It would be unethical to know what we know and to choose to ignore these ideas.
