Summary/Abstract: This article abstracts essential positions in the early debates on Marxist Aesthetics at the first half of the 20th century, which has been shaped by prominent Marxist thinkers such as Georg Lukács, Bertolt Brecht, Walter Benjamin and Theodor Adorno. It claims that these early debates are at large related with the competence of the audience. It also focuses the relation between these debates and film.
