Summary/Abstract: Greece and Albania, being usually in a hostile manner against each other by the mid-1990's, have got closer in the last years. The change of policy in 1996 by Athens, which aimed at knocking down Turkish influence in the Balkans, provided the suitable circumstances for it. Albania, which had taken refuge to Turkish support in the first half of the 1990's in terms of the difficulties in its relations with Greece, responded positively to the Greek appeal, mostly by virtue of the Socialist Party being in power since 1997.
