Summary/Abstract: Cossack detachments, composed of the Russian brigands, once fugitives of the Tsar authority, became advance troops of the Russian expansionism in the course of time. Initiation of this mission in the Caucasus was marked by an order the Queen Catherine II. Cossack groups were 'officially' settled in the Kuban and Terek region, and they acted as motivators of Russificasion of the region.
