Summary/Abstract: An aim of considerations is to present findings of the research on the possibility to learn new things as well as to indicate propensities to openness to new things against the background of the shared hierarchy of values. The article is of the research nature. The subject of analysis is the Poles’ hierarchy of values and the declared degree of possibility to learn new things. The article was prepared on the grounds of results of the European Social Survey (ESS). In the research proceedings, there was also used the literature in the field of sociology and psychology accessible in the form of books and articles. The carried out analyses findings indicate a relatively low level of identification of the respondents with their desire to look for new tasks or desire to be surprised. The Poles’ system of values is more aimed at the tradition, safety than at their openness to changes. Most respondents perceive the possibility to learn new things. The percentage of the respondents declaring such an opportunity in the last six years has been increasing, albeit vis-à-vis other European countries this result should be considered as low.
