Summary/Abstract: Religious people, travelers and artists have always been involved in the methods of engraving to determine, document and introduce what they have seen since the times of Byzantine period. Very little part of these gravures carry art related properties besides their technical skills and documentary characeristics. Gravures of art characteristics have started with the establishment of "Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi (School of Fine Arts)". Mürşide İçmeli should be regarded and evaluated not only with her creativity and productivity; but also her many sided skills as well as her artist/educationalist personality. The artist has an understanding of being faithful to customs and traditions while having the control over and owning what has been lived but she knows very well how to process, present and express them using her own artistic skills.
