Summary/Abstract: An aim of considerations is to raise awareness of the importance of human capital in the processes of innovative development in the region on the example of West Pomeranian Province. There was applied a review of the subject literature, secondary materials and documents as well as the method of statistics. There was adopted a definite system of categorisation of human capital being an integral components of intellectual capital. The analysis of indices of human capital of the region showed positive trends related to growth of the number of learners of post-graduate studies and the number of PhD studies participants. A favourable phenomenon is the noted growth of average monthly per capita spending on education. Great progress was made as regards employment of handicapped persons aged 16-64 – there was noted the growth of this index by 47.16%. The region’s population is characterised, against the background of the country, by a relatively low level of education at the working age – the index accounts for 16.59%. The region is in the third place from the end in terms of the registered unemployment rate – the index is 18.0%. The number of student in West Pomeranian Voivodeship in 2012 decreased by 27.48% vis-à-vis 2005. Unfavourable phenomenon is also the drop of the number of graduates of the engineering and technical lines of education.
