Summary/Abstract: Article’s objective: to analyse the selected indices of innovativeness of Poland against the background of the selected countries, to present the concept of open innovation and determinants of the application of such an approach within the framework of the national system of innovations in Poland. Type of the research methodology used: a comparative analysis of the selected statistical data. Main research findings: the data analysis confirms the low level of innovativeness in Poland against the background of the selected countries; however, the situation has not undergone any considerable change in the period investigated. Practical implications: on the example of cases described in the subject literature as well as the hitherto experience of the post-industrial countries, one may suppose that dissemination of the model of open innovativeness should – having met the presented conditions – positively influence Polish economy’s innovativeness. Social implications: the development of open environments of knowledge exchange is not possible without an adequately developed social capital; however, the measures aimed at popularisation in this country of the open innovation model will result in positive social changes in a long run, inter alia, in reduction of digital divide.
