Summary/Abstract: An aim of the carried out surveys was to present innovative activities in the Wałcz District in 2009-2013 and to define the enterprises’ knowledge and needs as regards their access to innovation and sources of its financing, to diagnose the current state and barriers in implementation of innovations in this district. Implementation of the aim of the article allowed verification of the adopted hypothesis that at least half of firms in the Wałcz District implemented in 2009-2013 innovations and most of them financed them by their resources. The surveys were carried out in the form of Internet poll including closed-end and open questions. According to the research findings, as much as 60% of enterprises of the Wałcz District declare that they have implemented in their firm innovations, and 64% plan to implement them in the next three years. They are mainly entrepreneurs carrying out their individual business. Most of them carry out activities exclusively in the region. There prevail microenterprises and, among the enterprises innovators surveyed, men. Innovations are most often implemented by firms functioning in the market longer than for 3 years. However, not many entrepreneurs made use of EU subventions for financing their innovative activities. The article is of the research nature with practical and social application. The authors indicated in it, inter alia, the type and financial value of the innovations implemented in the region in question into SMEs, the branches where they were implemented, and sources of financing changes. They showed what innovations the firms surveyed plan to implement in the next three years as well as the needs of entrepreneurs innovators as regards assistance of researchers in initiating and implementing innovations and in searching for sources serving change financing. The survey may be the key source of information for the purpose of monitoring innovations in the region in question.
