Summary/Abstract: The Islamic world is facing two processes. On the one hand, in a large number of Arab countries and even in non - Arab regions such as Afghanistan, we are witnessing actualisation of the question of caliphate crisis as an essential identity issue. On the other hand, in countries such as Iran, Turkey, and to a large extent Egypt and Pakistan, the essence of the matter is the consolidation of the national state. Countries that remained far from the theoretical challenges of the caliphate crisis and which could have established a national state in accordance with historical, cultural and religious demands, remained solid and secure. However, the crisis of the caliphate that fiercely shakes the poor regions of the Islamic world for the last three decades, has greatly contributed to insecurity and destruction of Muslim countries. After the collapse of Iraq and Libya, the idea of strong national states in the Arab world completely failed and instead of this emerged the idea of the return of the caliphate. This is the idea that has no historical or political foundation and is based on a false nostalgia for times past.
