Some Objections Directed Against the “Qiyâs” in the Nahw

Summary/Abstract: Arab linguists apply to distinctive methods in the process of determination and analysis of language rules mainly such as istiqrâ, semâ’ and qiyâs. These methods, which have been preferred by the first linguists, have been criticized by the later ones. Although these critiques have some points criticizable and opposable, they are principally directed towards the method of qiyâs. It is significant to stress that while the linguists are against qiyâs as a method in general, they also oppose to the practice of this method in the science of nahw. This study basically focuses on the grounds of opposition to the practice of qiyâs as a method in the science of nahw and on the answers to these objections. Moreover, the study aims to provide a brief exposition of the methods and proofs which have been applied by the linguists in the process of the determination of the rules besides qiyâs.
