Summary/Abstract: An aim of considerations is to present the changes in the income situation and consumption by households in Poland and the European Union in 2012 related to 2004. The research material was secondary sources of information (Eurostat’s macroeconomic data). In surveys, there were applied methods of statistical and economic analysis. Income, consumption and living standard are a set of interrelated elements. Their relationship with the European integration is of an indirect nature, deferred and differentiated. One of the goals of Poland’s integration with the EU was improvement of the living standard of population. Assessment of changes in this respect indicates improvement of the income situation and a favourable change in the proportion of consumption expenditure of Polish households; however, there have still been observed considerable disproportions compared to the EC average. The article is of the research nature.
