Summary/Abstract: An aim of the elaboration of the research nature is an attempt to analyse the situation of Polish museums perceived as a tourist product. There are presented here the legal bases and principles of museums financing as well as novelties in the way of presentation of the museum offer, characteristic for the recent years. The author discussed the trends in the museums’ approach to their hitherto, traditional functions, particularly in the context of growing demands of customers. An ample part of the articles is an analysis of secondary sources which are statistics, Polish museums’ bases as well as reports from the area of culture. The analysis was carried out to illustrate the number and nature of museums. No less important for their situation is, accessible only in the recent decade, the opportunity to support financially by European Union’s funds. Financial support for museums is envisaged in most operational programmes; however, as the analysis has shown, the most important source of grants is regional operational programmes. It is proper to note here that the funds museums are achieving in individual provinces are highly diversified. And the programmes dedicated directly to cultural institutions have in museums support just a marginal share. The article is of the research nature.
