Summary/Abstract: Political and legal analysis of relations between Crimean Tatars and Russian Federation will help to figure out not only history of bilateral relations, parties’ mutual perceptions but also to figure out Russia’s federal structure. Under the influence of historical relations, parties put distance between themselves and insist on their various goals and demands. In this changing conjuncture, Crimean Tatars aim to preserve their mother language, culture and their life safety. On the other hand, Russia tries to ground its federal structure on multiculturalism and to prevent problems once faced by the Soviet Union. Thus, Russia’s answers to Crimean Tatars’ demands on recognition as indigenous people and on self-determination have uttermost importance for bilateral relations.
