Summary/Abstract: An aim of the research was to determine the motives of implementation of foreign direct investments by the companies quoted at the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW) and to identify barriers reducing the said entities in carrying out such investments. The most important motives to undertake foreign direct investments for the enterprises surveyed are the possibility to enter new markets and to support export activities. The greatest constraints for development of foreign direct investments were considered administrative barriers, high operating costs, and high saturation of the target markets. The research confirmed difference in motives to place FDI in case of the EU15 countries in the most developed and emerging markets. The article is of the research nature.
