Summary/Abstract: After the final breakthrough on the Salonica Front, the Serbian Army, with Allied support, conducted an ”unstoppable” march to the north that led to the liberation of parts of the occupied homeland. A number of liberated towns were on the northern border of Serbia, on the banks of large border rivers, the Sava and Danube. The breakout of the Serbian Army over the Danube led to the liberation of the cities on its banks, Smederevo. The Serbian Army had previously freed other important towns near Smederevo: Velika Plana, Smederevska Palanka, and Veliko Orašje. Cavalry units and the Moravian Division of the Serbian Army participated in the liberation of Smederevo and its environs. Major Dušan Dodić was the leader of Serbian forces that liberated Smederevo on 30 October 1918.
