Summary/Abstract: This article explains innovative practices of evaluation and promotion of literature and fiction books, especially ones using modern technologies, as well as problems of evaluation of fiction collections in public libraries. Brief introduction covers issues of literature evaluation, positive and negative consequences of evaluation, incompetent and tendentious evaluation, etc. This context is lead to the question whether the libraries and librarians should deal with literature evaluation and if so, how it should be done in a relevant way. Second part of the article focuses on analyses of existing innovative library practices of fiction evaluation, as well as problems that come with these evaluations. Specifically, following practices are discussed: • Manual for reading and collection branding – Zlatna kruška (Ljubljana City Library); • Programs – One Book One Community; • Awards: Dositejevo pero; • New types of library websites that interact with library patrons in the process of books’ evaluations – Chicago Public Library; • E-magazines – Rijeka City Library • Facebook pages – New York Public Library page and Goodreads page; • Smartphones – YALSA’s Teen Book Finder • Online platforms for book reviews – Booklist Online (ALA). The article ends by brief introduction to the British Opening the Book concept that changes the focus from a book to a patron, and from book quality and a writer to quality of reading experience.
