Project LoCloud: Digital Library in the Cloud

Summary/Abstract: One of important results of the project LoCloud is digital library in the cloud, designed for smaller libraries, archives and museums, which do not have the technical capabilities to develop their own application to present digitized cultural heritage content on the Internet. The digital library will be available to customers in December 2014, the project partners will offer training and support to interested organizations. After completion of the project in February 2016, organization will be able to use the program and continue by paying minimum licenses. The content, released in digital library in the cloud will be transmitted via LoCloud aggregator to Europeana. LoCloud project was launched in March 2013 and will last 36 months. It is funded by the European Commission under the CIP ICT PSP programme, led by the Norwegian State Archives, partners are 32 organizations from 26 countries. The project aims to achieve two main goals: Develop infrastructure for aggregation of digital content in the cloud, tools for enrichment and re-use of digital content; Enable small and medium-sized cultural organizations, whose digital collections are poorly represented in Europeana, appropriate programming environment for the publication and dissemination of digital content on Europeana. In this paper we present the design and results of the project LoCloud, with particular emphasis on digital library in the cloud.
