Summary/Abstract: The name of Vrbnik was written for the first time in the grant of Dragoslav, a Glagolitic document from the year 1100. However, archaeological remains confirm that the ancient Vrbnik is even older. People already lived there in the Neolithic period, and traces in the area are left by the Illyrian tribes of Japodes and Liburni as well as Greeks and Romans. The whole town centre is a historical and cultural monument today. The backbone of the cultural life of the local community and the tourism offer of the actual cultural tourism, is the library of family Vitezić, with a replica of the Gutenberg printing press as well as ethnological collection, located in the former Rector's Palace. There is also other cultural immovable material heritage like Vrbnik circle dance, first ever known Glagolitic matrix, Glagolitic inscriptions, religious museum in Desetinac, city gates Dverčića, Klančić - the narrowest street in the world, the Frankopan walls ... This paper summarizes the history of the Library, its foundation and meaning in the life of the local community through historical changes. It shows activities to preserve the original library collection in particular between 2011. and 2012. At that time the e-catalogue was made and the whole collection became publicly visible and accessible for search. The most famous copy of Koehler's Atlas, was digitalized as well. This paper presents the activities of the Library and other heritage activities in cultural tourism offer that tries to revive cultural events all year round through educational and sightseeing tourism. It makes Vrbnik one of the most visited places in Croatia, as well as the daily life of the local community which deeply feels its cultural roots.
