Summary/Abstract: The evaluation of bonus-malus system toughness can be accomplished with properly constructed indicators. Basing on Markov process theory, the attempt to construct such partial indicators was made. Accordingly, appropriate Markov process characteristics were calculated for the chosen bonus-malus system. Their analysis led to the derivation of three partial bonus-malus system indicators: the overall expected value of bonuses to overall expected value of maluses ratio, the expected value of time that elapsed from the moment an insured entered the tariff class i to the moment of passing to the tariff class j for the first time and the average relative growth of probability that a randomly chosen insured from malus area would stay or return to a malus tariff class when total time spent in the system increases by one year.
