Summary/Abstract: In this study a special attention was given to the way in which the Aromanian issue in Albania is currently understood and addressed by the Albanian state institutions (legislative, executive, judicial), by the media, intellectual circles and NGOs, international organizations. According to the Census of Population and Properties in Albania, in 2011 were registered 8,266 people “Aromanian” (Alb. arumun) (in Albanian official documents refer to the same term, alternating with vllah). After 1990, in democratic Albania the Aromanians were granted the status of ethno–linguistic minority, with no legal effect whatsoever, since Aromanians do not have the same rights as the persons belonging to national minorities recognized in Albania. So the aftermath is even stronger, of the denationalization policies enforced by the communist regime.
