Summary/Abstract: The state of divorced people looms in a specific way among the great number of problems in present-day Bulgarian society. Most of the spouses and children especially endure divorce as a lasting stress that causes depression, low spirits as well as the self-idea of personal failure. The traditional idea of Bulgarians about divorce and divorced people as something unprestigeous in social and moral and psychic relations has a stress-causing effect. The material and everyday life state, the financial difficulties and the spare time of divorced people are the subject of the study. Special attention has been paid to the care about children on behalf of the mother who deals with their upbringing according to a number of social, moral and individual circumstances. Mental adjustments have been revealed through communication and personal contacts, friends encirclement and also the aspiration for more being together with the children. „The flight into loneliness” is one of the preferable ways as well for overcoming the pressing personal problems.
