Summary/Abstract: During the 2nd World war and mainly after the Independence had been proclaimed the issuesrelated to teaching Lithuanian language have become of key importance in the background of national identity, trying to strengthen the role of Lithuanian language as a state language. The article covers the period from 1915 to 1939, when after a few years break the syllabus of teaching the Lithuanian language, the Lithuanian language coursebooks and a number of overviews of coursebooks have been published and have seen the daylight. The syllabus performed the role of standardization of the language, establishing the norms of the Lithuanian language in schools and public life.
