Summary/Abstract: An attempt to show the evaluative function of intelligentsia, how it was expressed in important events of the history of Russia in the 19th—20th centuries is made in the article. The author shows the difference of the evaluative function of intelligentsia in those revolutionary movements where it failed and where the revolutionary movement scored a victory. The possi-ble position of Russian intelligentsia concerning the future development of Russia is evaluated in the article.
