Between High Culture and Filthy Language: Jean Genet’s the Maids and the Strategies of Dramatic Interpretations of Human Body

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with Jean Genet’s The Maids putting poetic strategies used by the playwright to create an impression of the corporeal presence of his characters centre stage. The admixture of styles (filthy language and borrowings from the high-literature tradition) is revised. Autopoetics, intensifying the sensuous principle as a reference to corporeality, is accentuated.
