Summary/Abstract: The article presents the professional group of Russian teachers employed in government schools after the fall of the January Uprising, therefore, in times particularly difficult for Polish education, when every subsequent legislation was aimed at undoing Aleksander Wielopolski’s achievements. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the number of Russians teachers in secondary schools of the Kingdom of Poland (in gymnasiums and poviat schools, subsequently converted into pro-gymnasiums in 1866) as well as their education and family background. The article also attempts to answer the question whether, or to what extent those teachers were able to accomplish the task of Russification of the Polish secondary education that they have been entrusted with. In this, so-called, transitional period starting from 1864, as much as 227 Russian teachers were employed on positions of schools heads and teaching politically relevant subjects, such as the Russian language, history and geography of the Russian Empire and the Kingdom of Poland.
