Summary/Abstract: Nazi authorities envisaged transforming conquered Poland into a typically rural country, devoid of industry – a source of food and cheap labour force for Nazi economy. It was believed that for Poles, the ability to count to 500 and write one’s surname would suffice. However, wartime needs forced Nazi occupants to temporarily abandon their initial concept of education and return to training Poles for professions important to the functioning of the machine of war.
